Brown drake hatches usually last 2 weeks on any stream or river. These large mayflies tend to exert a lot of energy into the ecosystem with a mass emergence in a narrow window. On the Red Deer River, brown drakes can hatch from mid June through early August in Alberta's longest brown drake hatch season. Our floats may start early in the morning or late in the evening this time of year if the forecast is for hot, sunny weather. Especially cloudy, cool weather can make for good fishing as well, mind you. We base our trips on the weather and water conditions and make the best assessment for your trip. The Red Deer River brown drake hatch is one of the best hatches in the province of Alberta when it is in full swing and in the right water conditions. Join us this season for some of the world's best dry fly fishing for large brown trout on the Red Deer River.
