Fly Fishing Guides ~ About Us

Our guides are very
experienced. We've been around long enough to know and recognize the
diverse stages and desires of the anglers we guide and set our day
accordingly. The trips are up to you. If you are intense and have a drive
to hone in on every fish, great... that's what we do. If you are the exact
opposite and are looking to relax on stream, enjoy the birds and
relaxing scenery and work a few fish, then that's what the day is about. The good thing about
experienced guides is that they know how to spot the differences and
adjust to you so that you don't feel out of place. It is your trip. As a guide company we have been operating since
1996.

Nick joined us in 2006 and
brings a wealth of fly fishing knowledge as well as outdoor adventure
education. Nick spent most of his season on the Red Deer, hosting daily
trips. In '07, he will return with his usual excitement for the risers
scoped out on your float. Nick is a lot of fun in the boat and brings a
light hearted approach to the river.

Steve has guided for our
company on a part time basis for several years. He has worked in several
fine dining restaurants, both in Lake Louise at the Post Hotel and now
in Calgary. On any time off, be it a 1/2 or full day, Steve finds
himself on a variety of rivers in the Calgary and Red Deer region. Steve
is an excellent host with an even keeled temperament to the day. |

Amelia
Jensen has been fly fishing exclusively since 1995. Her first day of fly
fishing was on the Ram River where she caught 20 cuthroat trout, the third
of which was 19". A great way to get hooked. Amelia
was a director of the
Casting
For Life Retreat 1998 - 2006. Casting For Life is a weekend retreat for
women survivors of breast cancer, providing life and encouragement through
fly fishing. She was also a director of the Women's Fly Fishing Association
of Alberta from 1999 - 2003. The photo above
was a great moment as this 24-1/2"
female cruised in less than 10" of water in a tail out flat. It was a
matter of casting ahead of the wake. |
Dave
Jensen has been fly fishing since 1977 at the age of 5.
Dave's knowledge of entomology is second to none. Dave's writing has been published in
over a dozen international magazines. Dave is actively
involved in Alberta Fisheries issues, forming
Streamwatch to enforce and educate, in
order to benefit our fisheries. Dave also instrumented the
regulation changes on the
South
Ram River, leading a letter writing and petition signing campaign
while providing key biological data to the government and attending many
meetings. |

Ken Penny joined our guide team in
2009, having guided many years on a low key basis. Ken guided many trips
for us in the 2009 season and had very good customer reviews from hosted
trips. He's floated the river often, knows it well, and is available
much of the summer. |
Part owner of the company, Kevin was originally a guest of Dave's
on the water. After spending many, many days on the river with Dave, a
buy in to the company in conjunction with our purchase of the
Fortress
Lake trophy brook trout retreat was a
natural. Kevin enjoys stalking individual trout rising on the Red Deer.
An evening float searching for snouts is as good as it gets for Kevin. |
